This week was somewhat of a quiet week. My co-operating teacher has been out all week with a death in her family which is so sad, but the assistant Mrs. VonDohlen was so happy to see us. She thought that we would be teaching and provide a little bit of relief for her but we were not scheduled to teach anything this week! I was feeling so badly for her because the children were a little loud and crazy without Mrs. Young there so I offered to do the literacy lesson for her.
Overall, it went great. I was a little bit nervous to do it since I did not have a lesson plan or any prep time whatsoever, but I knew that I should push myself because it was a good skill to learn to be able to teach a lesson at the drop of a hat. I am proud of myself for doing it and it went very well considering I had not prepared at all!

Betsy - - You rock girl!! Way to push yourself out of your comfort zone! And that was very very nice of you to provide some relief for the substitute teacher! I have not had a chance to see any subs used yet. Well I guess last week the assistant teacher was not there, but I feel that is totally different from the main teacher not being there. But way to make the most of our experience out in the field!!
ReplyDeleteWay to show some initiative. That's awesome!
ReplyDeleteGreat job, Betsy! I am sure you stepping up gave Mrs. V a much needed break. When I offered to read a story two weeks ago (not scheduled, but I saw both teachers were busy) they accepted with a smile and a sigh of relief. Even if the day is going smoothly, taking care and teaching 25 young children is tiring. You did the right thing, even if the lesson didn't go quite as planned, I am sure the students got something from it and you learned you can teach at the spur of the moment!
